The 'Chivalry idea' (although still lacking an actual title) was my third manga story idea, and was designed as a story less gothic than K.o.D. and more serious than L.H. (my two already existing ideas). The idea came about when my sister handed my a little Knight figurine; strange inspiration, but effective.

The story is a rebellion story with many twists and turns. It mostly focuses on the young teenage character named Lance in his discovery of their struggle. There are many factors to this story that I am keeping entirely secret, but it's perfectly fine to share designs of the main characters, as they appear early in the story.

These a couple of head-shot-sketches of important characters done after coming up with the initial idea for the manga. There is a strong trait of medievalness in this story, so I tried to combine traditional hairstyles with more modern. The result: David Bowie. Apollo is to the left, and Lance is to the right. They are indeed meant to look similar. The style seriously needs work at this point.

A colored shot of Lance to work on his basic character design and colors... |
Likewise, a colored shot of Apollo (at the point dubbed 'Mentor') His costume never changed much from this design, but his hair changed a little. |

I drew several pages (in flash) to work on the opening plot, since I had author's block. Thankfully, it really helped. The pages introduced Lance and Apollo, but when I produce the actual story it will be quite different. I still can't share these pages though.

I designed a character whose name is 'Eden', it took a couple of tries before she had a costume and color scheme that I was happy with. She has quite the story to her.
She started with dark, dull, purple hair, but thanks to a coloring accident with copic markers, it turned to a silver shade which suits her far more. She is the strongest female character in the story, so quite important.

Lance's outfit underwent a lot of redesigning. His color theme in particular changed a lot, changing from a red cloak and blue shirt to a grey coat and grey shirt. This quite fancy appearence won't be Lance's original costume, but it is his most apparent and frequent in the story.

I at this point in time decided to try designing the architectural style of their city, so I drew this image with Apollo (who, even at this point, wasn't yet named) overlooking a cityscape in manga tones.
The architecture is based on european architecture (an amalgimation of styles, more or less) but with more modern twists that might be entertaining to spot.

I realised that there was a character missing from my story. The 7th knight to be created (I haven't shared all characters) is a strange but cheery character who goes by the name of Arcade. Arcade's design has also fluctuated quite a lot, but is based on tarot cards (his passion, of sorts) Arcade has undergone a lot of design work and is set to undergo a lot more.
|
These are two designs of the swords used by the Knights. These in particular belong to Apollo (left) and Lance (right), so their designs are quite simple. I designed most weapons at this point, but won't share them all.

Apollo suffered quite extensively from his resemblance to Jareth from The Labyrynth, and Minato from Naruto. Although his hair style was first designed to be similar, I wanted it slightly more unique, so finaly added a flicky appeal to his hair which stays from this point onwards...
