LUCIFER started out as a strange idea. I decided, after finding none of my existing stories were atall suitable for online oneshots, (something I wished to do before approaching publishers myself) to create a new story that was completely suitable for the online, free-reading format.
I aimed for a stereotypical idea for the start. I envisioned a brooding, long, dark-haired man sitting in a bar over a drink; a bounty hunter. My friend suggested he be a vampire... half a day later, after a night of sleep, that plain vampire idea has fully evolved into a bright-haired cheerful individual by the name of Lucifer. It's funny how these things happen.

So here is the fist rough design for Lucifer. A 'cool guy' in a dark jacket. His visual design here was loosely based off Light Yagami's plain sweeped hair-style; which means... it's nothing interesting.
The character design that followed this was the most important, and very amusing. The next four sketches are all done at once on the same piece of paper...
1st sketch, his hair changes at the back |
2nd sketch |
3rd sketch; his hair sticks up more and becomes parted.
As you can see the outfit still isn't very cool... |
4th Sketch, his hair is fully evolved! Doing it so fast is very lucky.... |
So to follow up the hair being completed, (and to attempt to assign some 'color theme' to him) Here is a copic colored picture of Lucifer. His hair is a mild ginger, and his eyes are a russet brown... His outfit is still not cool enough.
Two outfit redesigns later, and his outfit is finaly decided on. This is something simple that he can wear in public, without being stared at too much, don't you think?
Of course, no matter how good a character is, they're nothing alone. So I start to design Seren, (who does not have her name yet) A dark-haired, normal girl. That sort of character is very hard to design, since so many already exist! So here is how she progressed....

And here is the final design! Her hair secretly changed color a lot, but in the end it returned to being black. Her hair-style is, luckily, finaly recogniseable. After this, the next stage is to design an outfit, (a sense of fashion catered to her personality)
